Alberto Méndez Rojas

I’m a visual artist guided by light, rhythm, and intention. I work between cinematography, 3D, and digital spaces, using light as a narrative force and nature as a constant reference. My practice is rooted in observation, emotional depth, philosphy, psychology and the belief that images should feel lived in—not just seen.
We must not look for what make us happy, but for what is profound for our souls.

My Story

I’m an artist whose relationship with art began early—first through music and traditional art, long before I understood images as a profession. As a child and teenager, I was drawn to sound, drawing, rhythm, and atmosphere, learning to observe emotions before learning how to explain them. That early sensitivity shaped the way I experience the world and, eventually, the way I create.

I grew up immersed in games and films where art wasn’t spectacle, but existential exploration. Works like Final Fantasy X, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Lost Planet 2, and films such as Spirited Away, Tekkonkinkreet, Animatrix, Inception, and Fullmetal Alchemist showed me that worlds can be poetic and cruel at the same time. Nature could be alive and dangerous, beautiful yet indifferent. Philosophical conflict, political tension, love, loss, faith, and betrayal weren’t abstract concepts—they were embedded into these worlds as lived experiences. Growing up with this kind of art made one truth unavoidable: a life disconnected from meaning and creation would never be enough.

That duality—light and darkness, beauty and decay—became central to my artistic language. My interest in Jungian psychology gave this intuition a direction, offering a symbolic framework through which I understand images, characters, and spaces. Concepts like the shadow, the collective unconscious, and the power of myth act as an arrow for my work, guiding my exploration of inner worlds reflected through external environments.

This approach culminated in my short film Rebus, a deeply personal exploration of parallel worlds, where light and shadow coexist rather than compete. Rebus reflects my natural inclination toward somber, nostalgic, and melancholic themes, not as pessimism, but as a way of honoring emotional depth and human complexity.

Today, I work across cinematography, lighting, 3D, and digital art, with a strong focus on light as a narrative tool and nature as an emotional mirror. I’m drawn to realism that feels lived-in, imperfect, and human. In 2023, I expanded my creative language further by teaching myself guitar and bass, and I’m currently developing a solo music project, exploring the same emotional terrain through sound.

I’m interested in projects that respect intention, craft, and atmosphere—where technology serves storytelling, and where artists are encouraged to think, feel, and question. My work is guided by nostalgia, melancholy, and curiosity, always searching for images and sounds that linger quietly, long after the moment has passed.
